On a fine Sunday, with occasional clouds and light winds, a small crowd gathered at Avondale LTC for the 2009 Handicap Tournament finals day.
With the new larger, brighter bunting gently flapping, the day was kicked off with the Ladies’ and Men’s doubles matches. Straight set victories were had in both.
Next, the eagerly awaited Mens Singles - the second challenge on the day for Dave Adams. After some closely fought points Dave pulled out his first victory.
Heading in for a deliciously inviting tea, the Ladies were left battling on court. The first rain of the day, and tempted by the fine teas, umpire Paul Treacy led the ladies off for a short break. On return Cath Pearson clinched her first handicap title in the closest of the matches.
The final Mixed match produced some entertaining and fast paced tennis with a youthful Dave Adams running to a second victory.
Many thanks to the kind voluteers for the teas, umpires and tournament organisation.
